And yet the use of Carbolosene was given up in May, so 13466
that it was really only officially recognised during the
first five months of the year, and in spite of that,
$21,000 worth was used ?
I dont think it was ever officially recognised.
Well, it was officially recognised that it should not 13467
be used in future. Do you happen to know that there was
a very large stock of that on hand, when it was decided
not to buy any more ?
I believe there was, and the last was only used up
last year.
So that it took three years to work off the stock? 13468
Yes. We were not using it continually. It was dropped.
I did not know we had any left, until one day, I found
an indent for Jayes Fluid sighed by me, and then we used
up the few remaining casks. (Page 1.771.)
What would a cask hold?
40 gallons I think.
13.469
It is only $80 for a cask, so they must have had a big 13470
stock on hand ?
You remember that in the winter and spring of 1961-8,
the Board carried out a general cleansing and fumigation
of the city. After a house was cleansed and fumigated,
it was mshed out with a mixture of Carbolosene and
water.
Had you to a certain extent to superintend this
eleansing ?

Yes.
