13022
When you say you prefer it, for the good of the Colony
do you mean ?
13023
For the good of the colony. It would do no harm to have one or two more medical men, for it often comes up that you get a question which is purely medical, and you are onlyone man on that question. But that takes place in England, and it is good enough for England. They have only one Kedical Officer of Health there, and the decision rests with a body of laymen. If that is good enough for England, why not for here. What distinction do you draw ?
I dont quite know the powers the authorities have at home, in the way of spending money on improving property, or the reverse, but I think there could be no
hars in having more yedical man on the Board. One Medical man may be giving his views on a doubtful
point.
13024
We have the Army Principal Medical officer, and the P. C. x. 0. on the Board.
When you say you think that one or two Medical men on
the Board would be an advantage, it is not necessary for one of them to be President of the Board ↑
To tell you the truth, I dont know the duties of the President of the Board. When I was President of the Board, it was simply as Chairman. I had nothing to do
with the Sanitary staff at all, and I saw the papers just the same as the other Members, perhaps.
Dont you think that that worked better than the 13025 present system ?
I should not like to give my opinions on the present aystem. You are Members, and you should know very much
better than I.
