Shanghai to operate these measures, with a view to the establishment

of a separate office of the department in Hong Kong for the facilitation

of trade with South China. Mr. Tsuyee Fei, Governor of the Central

Bank of China, ́has arrived on a short visit to Hong Kong to discuss

this and other matters.

(c) Reactions in the Colony to British foreign Policy.

The visits of the Trade Mission and Lady Cripps have created the

expectation on the part of the Chinese that the people of Great Britain

will continue to render assistance to enable China to reconstruct

herself on a sound basis to the mutual advantage of both countries.
