Dear Mayle,

J. REGY.

I had a talk about ten days ago with Gerald Samson, formerly adviser to the London office of the Chinese Ministry of Information (with which he has now severed his connexion)

who

has recently returned from a two months' visit to China. You may have seen the series of articles by him on his experiences which appeared in the wie News Chronicle" of 23rd, 24th, 27th and 28th January.

They are well worth reading, if they have not already been brought to your notice.

In the course of the conversation, Samson mentioned that he had had a discussion with the Chinese Minister for Foreign Affairs, in the course of which the subject of Hong Kong, was raised. Dr. Wang Shih-Chieh said that the Chinese regarded the promise made in 1943 that the question of the leased territories would be reviewed after the war as covering also the ceded portion of the Colony. Dr. Wang said however that the Chinese Government had no intention of raising this matter at present and had in fact curbed the activities of agitators who desired to do so.

Yours sincerely.
