SUGGESTED PARLIAMENTARY QUESTION AND ANSWER
QUESTION
To ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is
aware of the uncertainty that exists among businessmen connected
with Hong Kong and the inhabitants of that Colony concerning the
future of the territory and of the extent to which that uncertainty
is affecting the rehabilitation and development of Hong Kong.
ANSWER
I have been informed that this uncertainty does exist, and
I take this opportunity to say that His Majesty's Government have
intelinquishing their mbetes t relinquis hing their wish mitilaties in no intention of giving up Hong Kong.

policy, to sustain British Administration there, and to push on as rapidly as conditions allow with constitutional, economic and
social welfare development in the Colony. H.M.G. consider that, by
this means and with the maintenance of its present status, Hong Kong
can best make its contribution towards the restoration of the
ravages of War in the Far East and in particular in China.
