BRITAIN “MIGHT QUIT HONG-KONG 99
Chinese Minister's Belief NANKING, Thursday.-Mr Wang Shih-Chien, Chinese Foreign Minister, said to-day that he believed Britain might eventually relinquish control of Hong-Kong and Kowloon. China's foreign policy, he told the People's Political Council, an advisory body, must be one which seeks world peace, and the key to peace was closer co-operation with the Big Four.
The main obstacle in the way of signing a treaty of navigation and commerce with Britain was the question of Chinese in the British colonies. The Chinese Government was waiting for a British reply to a Note on the subject.
China urgently needed American aid both financial and material. During the past year only one-tenth of China's cotton requirements had been home produced, and wheat produc- tion had also been low.-Reuter.
