Hong Kong, made the following personal and confidential appeal
to General Chang Fa Kwei, Commanding Officer of Military
Headquarters in Canton:

"Kiu Yat Po to circulate freely in Canton and districts.
Perhaps some facts are not yet known to you.

The Wah Kiu Yat Po during the occupation was so cleverly
" edited that all loyal Chinese could read between the lines and

* friends have told me this newspaper kept their spirits up
" throughout.

own papers than in real patriotism. They attempted for
example to secure a large amount of newsprint from the Wah
" Kiu Yat Po, promising to drop political charges if the
" newsprint was handed over. This is known to the British
"authorities and has brought much discredit on those who made
" the proposal.
