We have received the following cable today from our principales in Hong Kong:
"Shum Wai Yau matter considerable pressure and "threats from Canton Military Headquarters "threatening extradition request for all directors "Wah Kiu Yat Po Newspaper unless control
" of paper is given Cantonese Government. Local "British authorities inaction whilst awaiting "home instructions gives client impression that "British casual in treatment of matter particularly "where British interests being served by clients "resistance. Urgent immediate action requested "by client."
In view however of our telephone conversation on the 4th inst. with Miss Ruston we assume that the necessary instructions have been forwarded to Hong Kong and that the matter will be dealt with without further delay.
We of course rely on your assurance that in the event of the Governor of Hong Kong arriving at a decision unfavourable to our client involving his surrender to the Chinese authorities that prior to any action being taken in this
