Have you not heard some of your own personal friends,
when you advised them to come down to Hongkong to buy
property, say no, that they were afraid of the
Sanitary Board ?
I have not heard my personal friends say so, but I
have heard a great many leading Chinese say so.
19447
Do you care to invest your own money in property now,
according to the existing circumstances?
It depends if it is cheap. If the property was worth
$10,000 some years ago, and it is offered to me for
$3,000, then I take it.

But supposing, if property was $10,000, some years agė,
and it is offered to you at $7,000 or $8,000 now, would
you take it
A.
I would not dare to.

And if this Ordinance had not been passed, then you
would be prepared to give $10,000 for it ?
I think I would. I will give you an instance. This is
1906. In 1904, one of my Directors hought a house
in Bonham Strand West, and one in Wing Lok Street.
That was one house running through, probably about
120 feet. He bought it for $62,500. Now this year, he
has bought another one, only two doors away from that

Now you mean to say, Kr Chau, that generally speaking,
the passing of this Ordinance has reduced the value of
property roughly by about a quarter to one third, in
the Colony ?
I consider it from 30 to 35 per cent. Look at this
house I

It is roughly one third off, and you attribute that
to the difficulties and expense to property owners,
by this, new Ordinanog, - in that so ?
