If I have seen it alrasdy, I pass it on to the

And previoue to January, you had reported the dirty 17268

state of the iron roof and gates amongst other things?

I am almost sure I did. We keep a repairs bock, which

would chew that at once.

17269

It is not just repairs, I am asking you at the moment.

That all goes into the repairs book. It is simply the

work required to be done by the P. V. D. in the

Varkets. Each month the repair book is sent up, with

all these things in it.

If it wants washing and cleansing, would the P. v. D.

cleanse it ?

No, that comes under my care.

Then what servants have you to carry out that duty

A.

In the Central Market, there is an overneer, who is a

European, and scavengin, colies.

72 A.

And it is their duty ?

17272

A.

It is their duty.

?!

.

And therefore if it is in a dirty condition, the overseer is primarily responsible ↑

17273

A.

Yes.

74 Q.

Werent you aware just before you went away as to the

dirty state of the ironwork ?

17274

Q.

I dont remember the gates distinctly, but I distinctly

remember the roof; it was very dirty.

In January or February, it was so bad, I met Dr Pearas

and called his attentică to it, and he quite agreed.

It certainly was a quarter of an inch thick`on the fron

gates. How, is it not your servante' duty, - the goolios

in the market, - to keep that clean, and wash it ?
