Of course, we have many other things to make recommendations on to His Excellency, as to what we think hout the working of the Department generally. Do you think, provided we made such a recommendation, as to have him back again, - could we reduce the Chinese staff or Secretary's staff sufficiently to pay that man?
I would rather answer that next time, after looking up
the papers. I certainly think that a European clerk in
the M. O. H's office is desirable, because it would relieve the M. O. H. from much clerical work.
