and all the another and bother that was occasioned led

to an increase of plague.

15.931

I dont suggest for a moment that limewashing increases

plague. What I want to know is: Does it reduce itin

any way ? For instance, we have had houses quite

recently limewashed, and cases of plague have occurred

in them.

Yes, but that does not shew that limewashing has any

effect because they might have been imported.

15.932 Did not the Government of India in their report almost

hint that the fact of a house being recently limewashed

one doas --- Would you not gather by reading the

report of the Indian Government that linewashing waS

not of very much use as a plague preventor ↑

Yes,

but I dont look upon that report you are referring

to as by any means a final report. That neither decider

hów plague is spread nor the best means of combatting

15433

Yes, but it rather strengthens it, rat fleas as

being one of the greatest'agencies of spreading plague,

and it also suggests certain measures for combatting

plague, and amongst the measures, limewashing does not

occur.

That is 30.

And that report is very much more definite than any 154:4

report ever made by anyone in Hongkong on the subject ?

And I should say the Government of India, with their

experience in Bombay, have had very much greater

facilities, they have had more doctors and they have

had cleverer mun, and they are in a very much better

position to give an opinion than anybody in Hongkong .

Therefore I think we ought to give a very great deal of

it.
