*he way I got into collusion with Inspector Gidley was

"this Sometime about the 9th or 10th Chinese moon

"last year, I took a notice, served by him, on the

"ower of house No 240 Hollywood Road, opposite the

"Chinese Bocreation ground, to see Inspector Gidley in

"his office, in the resumed area at Tall ingahar, and

enquired of him when he was to inspect the concrete,

"The Inspector told me he would inspect it a 2.30 in

"the afternoon of the same day. He asked me who I was,

"as my face was very familiar with him. I said, I

"recognised him as he was one of my schoolmates. He

"asked if I was doing building contractors business,

"and I said yes. He also asked if I would like to do

congrete work, and I also said yes. He then said he

"would let me know whereever houses had to be concreted,

"but that I must pay him something for the trouble. I

"said certainly I would. He then told me to wait for

"him at the appointed time, in house No 240 Hollywood

"Road. He took a coolie with him to open up floor for

"inspection at the appointed time, and after inspection,

"the Inspector said that the floor had to be reconorated

"I did the reconcreting of this hous, at the same time

"as I did the concreting, in Nos 256 and 25. Hollywood

"Road, not far from this house. I paid about $10 to the

*Inspector to pass all the three houses. This was the

first time, I had anything to do with Inspector Gidley,

"and when I saw him in connection with the concrete of

"the above two houses in Des Voeux Road West, he said

*that he wanted $20 a house in future, whenever he had

"to pass a house, without reconcreting. The Hollywood

"Road concrete, and pes Voeux Road exemption, took

*place about the same time, After this, Inspector Gidley

"had given me information several times, when he served

"notices on omers to conorate.
