Go on to that case of No 47 Queens Road West. Did that 422

prosecution emanate from this ?

A: Yes, from the man's statement. He was prosecuted and

fined $10.

Do you know of your own knowledge what evidence was given against that man ?

4423

I dont know. I would like that witness, Mr Small, called, to bear out what I say. I may say I mentioned it

to a Member of this Committee, Mr Lau Chų Pak, and what investigation followed, I dont know.

r Lau Chu Pakı-

I have seen the man.

Ir Shelton Hooper: You did not see the limewashing ?

A:-

4445-08- Do you know that the Medical Officer of Health inspected 4445

the premises before prosecution ?

A:- That would be unusual.

At-

You dont know whether he did or not?

I do know. I should like to say in regard to these instructions, the Senior Inspector was plainly told he must visit every house previous to prosecution. That was

clearly pointed out.

4426

As regards Inspector Lamble's suggestion, when you were 4417 Senior Inspector, did you find it impossible to go round

and visit every house?

I found it extremely hard work to visit every house for

limewashing, but I found it desirable to do so.

When a man complains of certain hardships, dont you

think the Chief officer in charge of the District should

go and verify it ?

Most certainly, in all cases of complaint.

4428

Were there so many cases of complaint, do you think that

the Senior Inspector would not have time to visit every

house ↑
