With reference to the letter from this office dated
12th June 1895,

4796 ,relative to a proposal for
the extension of the boundaries of the Colony of Hong
Kong, I am directed by the Secretary of State for War to
inquire whether any action has been taken in the matter.
I am to add that Lord Lansdowne thinks the present
may be an opportune time for pursuing the matter, as he
understands that the Foreign Office is engaged in another
territorial transaction with China as to districts on the
Burma-Chinese frontier.
