As however these guns will only pierce about 4 inches of irou at about 2000 yard it would suve highly desirable that these batteries should be provided
as soon as
possible with a heavier armament.
Until these two batteries are comple- -ted and armed Ido not consider it would
be advisable to commence
any of the other batteries which it is proposed to crect_ Nor would Iadvocate their being built ot all until it is absolutely certain that the heavier gives will be furnished for there, aswell as for the Noth and South Batteries.
