You will be interested to see, and

perhaps may wish to show to the Chief's

of staff, the attached copy of a minute

which I sent to Mr. Rowan, the Prime

Minister's Private Secretary, on the

subject of the continuance of the

military administration in Hong Kong

after the 1st of April.

I understand that the Prime Minister

has decided that the military

administration should continue for a

further month from the 1st of April.

We are accordingly issuing the public

announcement contemplated in the last

paragraph

paragraph but one of my minute to Mr. Rowan,

giving the end of April as the date of Sir Mark

Young's return to the Colony and the resumption

of civil administration.
