1st November, 1946.

I thought you would like to let Sir Mark Young know officially who Maj.-Gen. Festing's successor is as General Officer Commanding, Land Forces, Hong Kong.

The King has approved the appointment of This Major-General G.W.E.J. Erskine, C.B., D.S.0. officer has been specially picked for this highly important appointment and it has taken a stout battle with the Control Commission to extract him from Germany, where he has done a magnificent job during the last year.

I am certain Sir Mark Young will be satisfied with this appointment, as Erskine is high- class in every way and a most worthy successor to Feating.
