Reference recommendations of South East ..sic

Derence Committee forwarded under your 3...CUS 747 and 782.

2.

We agree that it would be desirable to maintain the garrison at its existing strength until the police force becomes fully reestablished in „pril. We understand,

however, that negotiations which are prococoing to extend the stay of 150 1.3.F. Brigade may not be successful. o realise that this may involve temporary replacement of 150 1.3.F. Brigade from your own Fesourcus and that this is already under investigation.

3.

We propose to move 3 Comendo Brigade to kalta as soon as it can be relieved by two British Infantry Battalions from elsewhere. This will provide better opportunities for commando training, after il 1947 those two battalions with a field regiment will form tue garrison of Hong Kong. You should confirm tit you can provide the field regiment and earmark tu ini̇cotry brigade as a reserve from your own resources.

4.

Six L.C.I.(L) now in Hong Kong are lease-lund craft sud must be returned to merican autuorities. To provision of six L.C.T.'s as a reserve at Hong Kong will prove difficult for muning a maintorence fousons. Before agreeing to this roquest w. wish to by cavisua of their importance to, Lad the manner in which they would be umployed in, to local aufence scheme, whether their minternce in reserve under tuo climatic conditions of Hong Kou, is fusible without & large maintenance staff.
