THE COMMITTEE had before them report by the Joint Planning Staff covering a draft report to the Defence Committee on our future policy for the defence of Hong Kong.
LOND TEDDER su ested an amendment to paragraph 3 of the draft report, suggesting that "to provide for this possible requirement, a nucleus ground defence system against attack from a distance by sea or air should be maintained at Hong Kong unter care and maintenance, so that these nucleus defences could be brought to a state of readiness at short notice."
LORD ALNBROOKE and LORD CUNNINGHAM thought that an amendment on these lines might result in the
