FUTURE GARRISON FOR HONG KONG
1303114.
(Previous Reference C.0.9.(-16) 24th Mtg., Min. 5)
THE COMMITTEE had before them a telegram containing the C-in-C. Hong Kong's recommendation that there should be no reduction in the present strength of the garrison, and that regiment of field artillery should reinforce the present strength.
LORD ALANBROOKE said that it was most unlikely that a field regiment could be provided for itong Kong, as the only source from which reinforcements could be drawn was India. He considered that India had preference over Hong Kong for this regiment. It would be necessary, however, to examine the facts put forward by the C-in-C. Hong Kong, and he suggested that the War Office should do this in consultation with the Admiralty and Colonial Office.
THE COMMITTEE:
Invited the War Office to examine
the above tele ram, in consultation with the Admiralty, C.0.0. and the Colonial Office, and to prepare a draft reply.
