We recommend that the telegram at Annox 1's. sert to the C-in-C Hong Kong stating that it is regretted that a Field Regiment cannot be despatched and that no reduction will be made in the garrison until the Police Force becomes fully re-established.

Agree two Brigades should be retained at present

but garrison will be reduced to one Brigade when European Folice Force is fully established.

Understand this is likely to be about 1 Jan 47. Must point out in this connection that retention of any Indian Forces outside INDIA after Mar 46

has NOT yet been agreed by Indian Government.

Matter now under discussion on Government level.

Regret we cannot agree to despatch Field Rogiment 'which could only be provided at expense of another

theatre. Do NOT consider requirement in HONG-KONG

sufficiently great.
