3. The Chin Fung Evening News published (on 27 Nov.) an article about Hong Kong of its 10 distinguishing points:-
(1) All the large hotels, such as Gloucester,
Peninsula, etc., have been commandeered
by the British Military and Civil Officers.
(2) Outwardly, Hong Kong maintains its peace, but, in reality, robbery, burglery, etc., happen frequently.
(3) Prices of commodities have risen about 10-15 times above that of pre-war.
(4) Dancing, cabarets and theatres are doing
good business. Infested with prostitutes.
(5) Difficult to obtain sests in buses and
ferries.
(6) Conditions of Japanese in Internment Campa unknown to outside people.
(7) Japanese Prisoners of War are being
utilized by the Hong Kong Government to clean the streets, etc.,
(8) Bad sanitary conditon. Plenty of mosquitoes
and rubbish.
(9)
An increase of population. Chinese officials welcomed by the Chinese are Generals Poon Kwok Wah, Shak Kok, Li Lay, Yu Shiu Lun, etc.,
