New Airport

Position on 1st March 1946. Jork on Pine Shan runway is sperended. R.A.F. Airfield Construction Jing is emplored on marrying rock, making a river diversion and surveying the late Fam Tin airfield in order to turn it back to nericnlture. This wine will be disbanded in the near future and can no longer be regarded as a vital asset. The school for training Chinese as rlant operators has 120 pupils on each 6 weeks course and results are very pro- mising. The Air Ministry Jorks Pirectorate will ultimately be the builders, neing Chinese

contractors.

The

Civil element of air Mission was firmly opposed to Pine Shan. This colony wants the best and therefore supports the Deep Per rro- ject. The one outstanding disadvantage is that it may take a year longer to obtain. fact that a further million pounds will be spent should not be en over-raline factor, especially as much of the money will be local wares. Survey of new site has not been anthorised. The construction of new air- field has to all intents and rurroses ceased while London's decision is waited and is not likely to becin aner until after the wet season.

Now that representatives of the 'inistry

of Civil Aviation have seen the sites, the rlan of a civil airport should be the responsibility of the Ministry. This should ensure that a field bull+ to fit ai-oreft design terdancies ig obtained.
