Dear Sirs,
We have just received your letter No. K.168/6/46 of 12th June sent us through Messrs. Swire and Scott and note with pleasure that we have been appointed your principal Airways Agents in Hong Kong, China and Japan on and from 1st August 1946. Formal confirmation of our acceptance of the Agency will be reaching you from our head office in London in due course.
We shall be replying in detail to your letter as soon as we have been able to consider the various points.
Meantime we confirm the following telegram sent you today: -
"Colonial Office telegraphed Government QUOTE Referring
your telegram understand A.N.A. wish operate with Douglas DCM4 Skymaster aircraft STOP As these aircraft cannot land at Kai Tak request you confirm intention is use smaller aircraft UNQUOTE Local authorities inform us Skymasters Lancastrians have used Kai Tak but before replying request us refer question you STOP Telegraph desired reply - Swire"
We assume that Messrs. Swire and Scott have advised you of the steps which at their request we have taken at this end with a view to obtaining our Government's support for your proposed new service. You will therefore be aware of the back- ground leading up to the above telegram.
We cannot, of course, presume to advise you on a technical question of this kind, but we believe you are already in possession of much information regarding Kai Tak Air Port. Whether this is sufficient for your purposes we do not know, but we shall be glad to obtain such other factual information as you may require.
Our Director of Air Services who is the local Government official in charge of air matters informs us that both Skymasters and Lancastrians have successfully landed at and taken off from
