Dear Sirs,

Air Services.

A.N.A. We have just received the Directors' letter

from Melbourne of 13th June enclosing A.N.A.'s letter of 12th June, but we cannot comment by this mail.

Meantime we confirm the following telegram from the Directors from Sydney:-

Dated 24.6.46. (recd. 25.6.46).

Your fourteenth local telegram very weak canst persuade press Australian Government provide fast cheap service COLON unnecessary specify A.Ñ.A. but in fact they only can provide.

We must confess that as repeated by us the local Govern- ment's telegram to the Colonial Office did not sound very enthusiastic. We were assured, however, that our Government is most anxious that this service should be established and that their telegram was so worded as to convey this.

The answer, however, is really contained in the attached copy of letter to A.N‚A. Our Government and we read the Colonial Office telegram to mean that permission will be forthcoming subject to settling the technical problem raised, though it could also be read as stalling for time.

Yours faithfully,

(Sgd). Butterfield & Swire.
