The Chairman said the minutes of the last meeting had been sent
to the Hong Kong.Communications Board and The Board had replied by
signal, la summarised version of which had been circulated. The Hong Kong
Board had described the difficulty it was encountering in finding
communal sites for the Transmitting and Receiving Stations, of the
sizes recommended at the last meeting and stated that either the
requirements of Transmitting and Receiving Channels must be reduced, or
if this could not be done, some system of greater sharing of aorials
utilizing wide band amplifiers and multi channelling equipment must be
adopted in order to economise in the land required for aerial arrays.
At the last meeting it had been stated that the requirements
listed by the various departments were the minimum necessary to provide
essential services. Perhaps the departments could now say whether they
could cut down requirements. If not it must be decided what was to be
done to assist the Hong Kong Board. Would greater sharing of aerials
provide the required Technical efficiency.
Mr. Smale said that at the last meeting there had been a tendency
to add all the requirements together and then plan the maximum space
needed for the aerial systems, on the basis that each main circuit
must automatically have its own aerial array, and cach acrial array
must have its own piece of ground. This would be the ideal arrangement /provided.....
