Communal W/T Sites

Referring to your letter on the above subject dated 4th May, 1946, the points raised are now submitted seriatin.

1.

As the matter was urgent, a reconnaissence, not survey, was carried out, using the 1/20,000 Map shoot No.10 Sin Tin for reference; height and quantitics approximate only and the attached tracing is the rosult.

The most suitable site is about 1 mile west of Sa Tin, close north and west of Mai Po Villago; the uncultivated marshy ground avoids resumption, but reclamation is roqu rod. Filling can be obtained from the adjacent hills oast of Mai Po and a slight diversion hero of the main road would be advantageous.

(c) Possible locations for building area at Map References E 086 N 777 and/or E 077 N 774. At E 086 +N 777, filling (blue colour) is rundily available for the whole area coloured pink about 23 :cros or for part of this as required. At E 077 N 774, filling would be available for not more than 10 acres.

(b) The ground for piling for buildings and towers is marshy and appears mud and clay: Test piles or borings are required bofore suitability can bu definitely stated.

(c) Reclamation will be required for building arons: so (2). Roclamation will be roquired also for paths to tovors 12 in number set at maximum radius from centre 620 yards (this figure is arrived at from information that the whole circular area requ red would cover ab.ut

250 crcs). Filling is available: sec (a).

The general level of the marsh appears about 5 foot above datum but this is approximate only.

The paths shown dotted run on cxis ing clay muž dykes about 10 fect above datum (LTOS): rough sluices being providel at various prints. Re-inforcement of these dykes as requisite for reclamation and cross should not be difficult.

(d) As far as could be soon, the aren is worsh and uncultivated.

(e) Soc (a) and (c) and attached tracing.

(f) The most suitable site is as indicated above with shortest

hauls for local earth and stone filling.

(a) The marsh floods at high tides and under extraordinary typhoon conditions, the dykes (10 feet) might be submerged. Roclamation lovel and access paths to towers is recommended not loss than 13 feet which is approximate height of the main road at Mai Po,
