2. In this Ordinance, unless the context otherwise requires, the following expressions shall have the meanings hereby respectively assigned to them, that is to say
"Agent" means, in relation to the occupation period, a legal agent and any person who was a legal agent immediately before the occupation period and who continued to act as agent during the occupation period in the absence of his principal notwithstanding that his authority would otherwise have ceased on the commencement of the occupation period;
"Capital debt" means the principal sum of money due in respect of a debt;
"Custodian" means the person or persons appointed by the Occupying power as Custodian of Enemy Property, but does not include a liquidator;
"Debt means any sum of money payable by virtue of a legal obligation and recoverable when due by process of law;
"Duress or Coercion" for the purposes of this Ordinance includes any act or threat to inform an official of the occupying power of the refusal of a creditor to accept payment of a debt in occupation currency;
"Legal Agent" means an agent duly appointed by his principal and authorised to act on behalf of his principal acting within the scope of his authority;
"Liquidatorit means any person appointed by the occupying power, and acting as liquidator of any Corporation, company, firm or other commercial undertaking;
"Malayan currency" means the dollar currency in circulation. and constituting legal tender in the Territories now comprising the Malayan Union before or after the occupation period;
"Occupation currency" means any currency issued by the Occupying power and in circulation during the occupation period, but does not include Malayan currency;
"Occupation period" means, in relation to each: State or Settlement of the Malayan Union, the period set out opposite the name of that State or Settlement in the first Schedule hereto, and includes any part of such period; "Occupying Power" means the authority exercising during the occupation period the functions of Government in the territories or any part thereof now comprising the Malayan Union;
"Property" means real or personal property and any rights therein.
3. (1) Save as hereinafter expressly provided, payments made during the occupation period in Malayan or in occupation currency, in respect of debts incurred prior to the commencement of the occupation period, or arising out of or in consequence of a breach of a contract entered into prior to the occupation period by a debtor or his agent or the Custodian or a
