I am etc. to inform you that he

has had under consideration the position

at the instana

created by the issue by the Japanese

authorities in Hong Kong during the occupatio

of that Colony of certain previously

un-issued notes of the Hong Kong and

Shanghai Banking Corporation, which were

psised by them, to a total value' of

119,800,000

$190 million.

It will be recalled that when

information was received of the irregular

issue of these notes a warning was

issued through banking channels in China tha

the notes might not be in due course

accepted by those responsible in Hong Kong

and that subsequently, on the liberation of th

Colony, a proclamation issued under the

authority of the military administration

which re-established the legal tender

position of notes lawfully issued by the

note issuing banks of the Colony made an

high damminatin
