I have the honour to refer to British kilitary roclamation ilo. 31 of the 3rd of april, 1946, amending the B... Currency Froclamation and to enclose herewith for your information a copy ol' correspondene with the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation concerning the Bank notes of the orporation i suod by the Japanese authorities. As you will be aware, this correspondence was forwarded by semi-official letter from Mr. .. Chine of the Colonial office to Brigadier D., MacDougell, then chief civil Affairs Officer, who was thus enabled to ingue the roclamation under reference. To give full affect to the arrangements with the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation proposed in my letter of the 28th of February, 1946, it is desirable that the Hong Kong Government should now legislate to eɛtabllah beyond doubt the validity of the Bank's notes in question and to meko provision for the issue to the Bank of Certificates of Indebtedness in accordance with the agree arrangements.
