Mr. Caine saw Mr. Cockburn of the Chartered Bank and Mr. Crichton of the Mercantile Bank on the 5th of April and explained to them what arrangents were proposed as regards the duress notes of the Hong Long and Shanghai Banking Corporation. The question of whether anything in the nature of parallel treatment was required for the notes of the Chartered and Mercantile Banks was discussed and it was agreed that before coming to any conclusions kir. Coc.burn and .r. Crichton should look into the position of their own Banks and should communicate further with us. No imediate action is therefore necessary and we can await the communication from kir. Cockburn and Mr. Crichton.
