If the Prison is on a sepurate system, is the separation complete ? Aud, if not, what is the separa- tion enforced by day and night resportively ?

II.—If not on the separate system, what provision is there for the supervision of the prisons while in

association?

Answers.

Hong Kong Prison is fully on the separate system but the separation is not complete owing to over- crowding.

The Victoria Gaol is nearly on the separato systemi, The Branch Prison at Lai Chi Kok is not on the separate si stem. Prisoners work and sleep in asso- ciation. The Female Prison is partly on the separate systrim but prisoners are mainly in association borly night and day,

Tiong Kong Prison & Vietnia Gaol :—Alf mil doors are provided with inspection holes through which the prisoners can be seen by the officers patrolling the wants. While at labour or exercise The prisoners are at all times under the immediate supervision of Principal Warders, Waders, and "Assistant Warders. Ar Lai Chi Kok Brauch Prison, officers patrol behind grilles a night. Female Prison cells lavo inspection holes, Ward- resses patrol at night during the day the prisoners are under the supervision of the Matrons and Wundresses.
