The number of prisoners reported during the year was 431; they were punished in the manner detailed below, viz. :—

Protestant and Roman Catholic Chaplains are appointed,

Religious services aro held for the Church of England prisoners every Sunday.

The Prison is also visited by Roman Catholic Priests, who hold a service on Sundays for botir European and Chinese prisoners.

A religions service is also held regularly every Sunday morning and every Friday afternoon for the benefit of Chinese prisoners by native clergymon belonging to London Mission. Attendance voluntary.

They are allowed free access to the Prison at such hours as do not interfere with the discipline of the Prison. Intimation is immediately sent to any Minister or Priest, if at any time a prisoner expresses a desire to see him.

No provision for adult prisoners, but all are supplied with religious and other books,

A School muster instructs the juvenile offenders. Male prisoners sentenced to 2 years and upwards may earn th remission of seutence by industry aud good conduct.

Female prisoners sentenced to 2 years and upwards may carn frd remission of sentence by industry and good conduct.

Male and Female prisoners with sentences of less than 2 years but exceeding 6 months may earn th romission by industry and good conduct.

The Governor may grant remission on medical grounds or for any special ressou.
