The Royal Observatory is situated on a hillock, 100 feet high, near the southern extremity of the Kowloon Peninsular, about 1000 yards from the harbour to the South, 500 yards from the cast side at the peninsular and 401k yards from the west side The surrounding country is flat, except in the North, where a range of hills from 200 to 400 feet high stretches across the peninsular a mile from the Olisoervatory. From 3 to 20 miles further South the ground is hilly over the greater part of the peninsular with peaks from 2000 to 3000 feet high. Five miles to the enstwant of the Qúservatory, where another small peninsular projects southwa; 1. is a range of hills from 700 to Jono feet high. To the westward of the Observatory, the hills on Lautan blond. 19 nules distant, Fise lo 2000 feet
