County or District.

Remarks. — 418 A. 0 R. 35 P. were granted, and 2,947 A. 3 R. 14 P. were resumed, leaving 1,234 A. 3 R. 34.5 P. to be added to the total number of acres in the Colony quoted in previous returns.

All lands in the Colony, with the exception of the Cathedral, and some University, and Admiralty and Military lands, are granted on lease with or without premium. Lands which are let for short terms or on temporary permits are not included except in the case of the New Territories.

A small quantity of arable land in the Colony exclusive of the New Territories is let on yearly lease or to tenants at will. Crown land for building purposes is made available as circumstances require.

Persons having possession of lands or houses previous to the Treaty were allowed to retain them on payment of certain assessed rentals now collected by the Treasurer; in cases where such lands or houses are not leased, the occupiers are treated as tenants at will.
