REMARKS.

(5) Mr. N. L. Smith acted as and drew duty pay of Assistant Postmaster General from 1st January to 31st December and drew half initial salary of Assistant Postmaster General and half initial salary as Pussed Cadet from 16th January to 8th March and from 13th Angast to 8th November plus increment as Passed Cadet from 9th November to 31st December. He also drew $1,270 Censor- ship Allowance.

(6) Allowance for extra work on the arrival of an English or French Mail from Europe, and of a Canadian or United States Mail on a Sunday, on the following scale :—Salary $1,200 and upwards, $3 per mail; $600 and under $1,200, $3 per moil; $480 and under $600, $1 per mail, ander $480, 80.25 per mail. The allowance is doubled in the case of an English or French Mail arriving on a Sunday or holiday.
