The Chinese inhabitants contribute, by a voluntary assessment among themslves, to the pay of District Watchmen. They contributed for the year 1908........

The Governor appoints to the office of Watchunen such fit persons as he may consider to be sufficiently recommended by the inhabitants of any District, under the provisions of Ordinance 3 of 1888.
PUBLIC DEBT.
Inscribed Stock at 3% interest. £341,799. 158. 1d. for Praya Reclamation; Central Market; Water, Drainage and Sewerage Works, &c., to be paid off on 15th April, 1943.
Inscribed Stock at 31% interest (Lom to Viceroy of Wuchung) £1,143,933. 1s. 4d. (Amount repaid by Viceroy at credit of Special Account £330,000, which has been advanced therefrom for Railway Construction.)
The amount paid into the Joiut Sinking Fund with accrued interest reached £74,674. 14s. 8d. on the 31st of December, 1908.
