HONGKONG VOLUNTEER CORPS.

The Corps as it existed until 1893 consisted solely of an Artillery Corps. It was not made subject to the Army Act, and consequently was not held to be in a military sense a reliable force in the event of war.

In 1893 the force was disbanded by the Government and a new Volunteer Corps was formed under Ordinance No. 6 of 1893, which placed tho Corps under the supervision of the military authorities as in England, and made it subject to the Army Act to the sume extent as the Volunteer Force ju England, Amended Regulations were made by the Governor-in-Council ou the 25th May, 1999, and again amended on the 6th November, 1902.

The establishment of the Corps has now been fixed as follows:—

2 Garrison Artillery Companies.................310

1 Engineer Company, and a Band,

with a Stuff of 1 Major Commandant and Adjutant, 1 Major 2nd in Command, 2 Medical Officers, 1 Corps Sergeant- Major, and 1 Orderly Room Clerk (Chinese) and 1 Armourer Sergeant.

The Staff is complete, and the other Units have hicen formed, with actual strength as follows;—
