Ventilation is very good all over ship and the cubic spaco allowed to each patient is there- fore liberal. On emergency over 110 could be accommodated giv- ing each 600 feet on upper deck and 900 on lower deck. During the summer months Ventilation of the lower deck is not good owing to wins being light or absent,

All the excreta, &c. pass straight into the sen so that only sweet water can ever collect in the bilger, which arc ventilated by 2 up and 2 down shafts cach 3 ft. 9 in. in circumference.
