Ventilation is very good all over ship and the cubic space allowed to each patient is there. fore liberal. On emergency over 110 could be accommodated giv- ing each 600 feet on upper deck and 900 on lower deck. During the suminer months Vetilation of the lower deck is not good owing to winds being light or absent.

This, of course, does not include the large air-space above the private wards and dispensary, passages, &c.

All the excreta, &c. pass straight into the sen so that only sweet watɑr can over collect in the bilges, which are ventilated by 2 up aud 2 down shafts cach 3 ft. 9 in, in circumference.
