Ventilation is very good all over ship and the cubic space allowed to each patient is therefore liberal. On emergency over 110 could be accommodated giving each 600 feet on upper deck and 900 on lower deck.
*This, of course, does not include the large air-space above the private wards and dispensary, passages, &c.
+ Including sliding shutters above private wards.
In addition to all there is an open space of 4 inches between the side and roof of ship all round.
All the excreta, &c. pass straight into the sea so that only sweet water can ever collect in the bilges, which are ventilated by 2 up and 2 down shafts each 3 ft. 9 in. in circumference.
