The number of Reports for Prison Offences during the year 1892 was 7,494, out of this number 248 were dismissed, 585 wero cautioned and admonished, and 6,661 were punished in the manner detailed below, viz.:-

The Colonial Chaplain is ex officio Chaplain of tho Grol.
Religious services are regularly hold for the bonofit of Episcopalian prisoners, and occasionally for Prosby- torinn, and othor Dissenting prisonors.
The Prison is also visited by Roman Catholic Pricate, who hold a service for both European and Chineso prisoners of that persuasion.
A Religious service is also held_regularly every Sunday morning for the boneft of Chineso prisoners by nativo clorgymon bolonging to St. Stephon's Church. Attendance Voluntary.
They are allowed free access to the Prison at anch hours as do not interfere with the discipline of the Prison. Intimation is immalintoly sont to any Minister or Priest, if at any time a prisoner expresses a doniro to seu him.

Romission of sentences has been granted to Prison- ers Hontenced to a term of incarceration of twelvo months and over, under the Mark System which camo into operation on the 1st January, 1886, by which a Prisoner could earn by Industry and good conduct a remission of ono-third of his whole sentonco.
By the rules which came in force on the 22nd Octo- her, 1891, a prisoner could only carn remission of † of such portion of his sentence as was in excess of 6 months,
The Mark System has been further rovised by tho - new rulos which took effect from the 7th November, 1892. Malo prisoners sentenced to 2 years and up- wards can earn a remission of † of their whole scutouce, nul fomalo prisoners.
Others have had portions of their sentences romitted on medical grounds, &c.
