FEES OF OFFICE,—Continued.

The foe paid in accordance with the foregoing scale covers any number of visits that a Surveyor may require to make before he is able to grant his declaration, as well as the inspection of the lights and fog signals, and of the marking of the vessel, which inspection must be made by the Surveyor before he can grant his declaration. The fee does not, however, apply to or include any inspection of lights, fog signals, or marking, made subsequently to the granting of the declaration.

The above fee does not cover any service under the Chinese Passengers' Acts, or measurement for tonnage.

(2.)—Survey of Ship under Chinese Passengers' Acts.

A special survey is to be deemed to be a survey requiring more than two visits by a Government Surveyor or Surveyors, or a survey in cases in which from age or any other circumstances there are reasonable grounds for doubting the son- worthiness of the vessel. Where the case requires unusual attention and occupies an unusual amount of the surveyor's time, the higher fee of $30 and upwards will be charged, according to the special circumstances of the case and the number of visits made.

Whore a declaration has been granted for a Stenm-ship under this Ordinance, the survey under the Chinese Passongers' Acts will be made on payment of half the usual fee mentioned above. The fee paid in accordance with the above scnlo covers the inspection of the lights and fog signals, and the marking of the vessel, made at the time of survey under the Chinese Passengers' Acts. It does not, however, apply to, or include, any inspection of lights, fog signals, or marking, made subsequently to such survey.

The fee for survey under the Chinese Passengers' Acts does not cover any survey of a Steam-ship for a Passenger Certificate under this Ordinance, or mea- surement tor tonnage, or inspection of crow spacos.

Travelling expenses (if any) .ad subsistence expenses (if any) duo according to the scale authorised by the Governor, will be charged in addition to the fees.

SURVEY FEES (Overtime).

The following Scale of Overtime Fees, to be levied by the Harbour Master for the sorvices of the Government Marine Surveyor, have been approved by his Excel- lency the Officer Administering the Government, under the provisions of Sub-section 6 of section 5 of Ordinance 8 of 1879:-

On week days, from 8 A.X., to-10 A.M.,

and

A service occupying loss than an hour will be charged as one hour. For service excooding an hour, quarter of the fee will be charged for each quarter of an hour,

and

any expenses incurred will be charged in addition to the fees.

When an incomplete Declaration is required one-half of the Survey fee in Table C of Ordinance 8 of 1879 will be charged.
