Under War Office Authority No. 4, dated 7th June, 1870, the Military Contribution is allowed to be paid in, at the rate of Exchange current for Bills on London at sight on the day when the payment is made, consequently in the first three Quarters of the year, the Colony was the gainer of £303.5.11, the Exchange being higher than 4/3: in October, when the Contribution for September Quarter was paid, the Exchange was at 423, therefore the Colony lost the sum of £62.0.0, but during the whole year there was a gain of £331.8.2 to the Colonial Government.
