Religion Services are held in one of the large rooms of the prison, but there is no separation of prisoners whilst at divine service therein.
The Colonial Chaplain performs Divine Service on Sundays, and occasionally visits the Prisoners on week days; the Schoolmaster has been supplied with Bibles as well as a small Library of useful and entertaining Books.
All known Ministers of Religion are allowed free access to Prisoners but so as not to interfere with the Work or discipline of the Gaol.
The Colonial Surgeon visits the Gaol once each day, or oftener if necessary, and examines and prescribes medicine for the sick, who have separate rooms set apart for them. Europeans as well as Chinese.
Fever, Diarrhea, Ulcers, Abscesses, Syphilis, and Rheumatism.
Debtors, persons awaiting Trial and men sentenced to simple Imprisonment are the only un employed prisoners.
