Mr. Caldwell entered the Colonial Service on the 19th of January 1843. On the 6th October 1867, he resigned the office he then held of Chinese Interpreter to the Police Court and Assistant Superintendent of Police. On the 2nd of... 1867, he rejoined the Service as Assistant Superintendent and General Interpreter, which office he held up to the 3rd July 1855, when he again resigned. On the 17th November 1856, he was readmitted into the Colonial Service under his present designation.
