The only Gold Coins legally current are those of the lenited Kingdom and the
East India Company's Gold Moohur coined since 1o September 1835, value £1.9-4. Sterlin This latter however is seldom if ever met with in the Wolony.
The Silver Coins besides those
of the United Kingdom.
are the dollars of Spain, Mexico, an

the South America States, each equivalent to 44/2° Sterling. The East India Company's Rupees,

Half and Quarter Rupees at 1.10 - 11. and 5% respectively.
"The Dollars of Spain is rarely if ever met with as a perfect coin, but always chopped or broken and passes by weight. 417 Falls being equivalent to 1000 Dollars, - In this state the Spanish dollars, are not a legal tender but being a staridard by which all Commercial transactions with the chinces are regulated at the Consular Ports, it is also the principal
currency of the Island.
The Copper coins, are those of the United Kingdom and the Copper Cash of China,
211 of which are equal to one penny Sterling.
British Silver is not a legal tender above £2.
These coins have always been taken interchangeably for each other, at the above rates according to the assumed intention of the Queen's Proclamation of 1o! May 1845, But by
Judgment of the Supreme
in 1854, it has been decides that such is not the effect of that Proclamation and that Special Contracts must be sat
