A school has also been opened on the 1st instant at Bowring town which promises to be well attended.

Considerable difficulty has been experienced by the Committee in inspecting the Schools, especially those at the out stations, two having been removed from us and no one of our number having been appointed to supply their place.

The present unsettled state of affairs has also rendered it impossible to hold an examination of the schools previous to sending in this report. On the whole, however, the Committee are happy to be able to report favourably of the condition of the schools and of the estimation in which they are held by the Chinese, who seem to entertain greater confidence in the motives of Her Majesty's Government in establishing schools for their benefit.

Some changes have been made with the sanction of His Excellency in the masterships of the Schools during the past year.
