One of these overseers is proposed to be employed as an overseer of Buildings, another as overseer of Masonry, and the other as overseer of Drains, while Mr. Scott takes the general direction under the direct orders of the Head of the Department.
To these has been added a Chinese overseer of Waterworks at present employed in laying iron pipes, and in the erection of Tanks proposed in various parts of the town, and subsequently to take charge of the various stopcocks and the water courses and hydrants, forming the supply.
It has also been proposed to build a house for these overseers at one Department Corner of the principal Tanks in the town to initiate them into the City and service required in case of fire in the distribution of water to the requisite direction.
The wants of the city demand a larger supply than that originally contemplated when the Report and Estimate for that service was framed ten years since; either extensive reservoirs should be made in the principal ravines, or those banked across to retard the flow of water during violent rains and…
